As a working mother of three young children, I have a vested interest in the future of our community. As a scientist and environmentalist, I am also poignantly aware of how critical issues such as water quality on Long Island are. In lieu of many of the poor policy decisions being made, I have decided that it was time I stood up and took action. Brookhaven Town is my home. It is where my three children were born and where I am raising them. I will strive to give them a future that I, and the rest of the community, can be proud of.
I grew up in Pennsylvania, moving to Long Island for school, ultimately receiving a Master’s of Science degree from Stony Brook University in Marine and Atmospheric Sciences. After a brief stint home, where I met my husband, I have been living in Brookhaven Town for the past 11 years. I worked for the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation for seven years. I have spent the past four years working with the local governments in the Manhasset Bay watershed as the Executive Director of the Manhasset Bay Protection Committee. I use my training as a marine biologist to make educated decisions that directly affect Manhasset Bay. Having both a scientific and government background makes me uniquely qualified for an elected position as I am a critical thinker and have worked in the system.
I have been active in politics for the last few years, serving as a Brookhaven Town Democratic Committee member. I am also a member of the Suffolk County Mother's of Twins Club, the Coram Civic Association, and Science Advocacy of Long Island. My husband and I host a group that is networked with The Indivisible Guide. I have been a registered Democrat for 15 years, but an independent thinker for 20.
I am running for the Brookhaven Town Council District 2 seat, because I know I can make a change. I am ready to work for the residents of Brookhaven. With over a decade of experience working in and with government from the local level up to the Federal, I have the know-how to get things done. I have made connections with professionals from all over Long Island that I will bring to the job as your elected official. If you want a Town who listens to the people and makes real movement on the issues you are concerned about, vote for me on November 5th.
